Even though the UK price for the iPod has apparently not yet been announced and isn’t available on the UK Applce store, http://www.cwonline.co.uk/ is taking orders for £327.82 Inc VAT(!!!!)

Those of us who thought the European news might be better than the US prices, might be in for a rude awakening

Anyone seen any other UK/European prices and availibility?

According to xe.com $399 = £280, which when you add VAT at 17.5% makes £327. So we are paying the US price, but with European taxes on top.

Let's hope they'll use a different exchange rate, otherwise there's no way I'm getting one...

Actually, to add insult to injury, Apple (it seems - check out http://www.macuser.co.uk) have increased the uk price by 20 quid in the last 24 hours.

I think we're a little too loyal at the expense of being done, don't you...?

In fairness, I think Apple are a little cheeky in calling this a "breakthrough device". And not adjusting the prices accordingly for European customers smacks of the same old Appleness we've come to be suckered by time and time again.

This is outrageous

It's not that I can't afford it, but there's no way I'm shelling out 350 quid for an mp3 player without a decent line-in or line out?!

It's WAY to much money...hopefully they will come to their senses after they sell like three in three months.

I can see the advertising execs buying them though, cause it's useful in that industry (firewire HD). Still, my only use for it would be for music - and for that purpose, I just can't justify paying that much ££££.

Sorry Apple, no Christmas present from me this year

Apple needs a spanking...

The iPod price in Sweden started at 4000 SEK ($378), than got adjusted to 4240 ($400) and on top of this... the lovely swedish tax of 25%!

Putting the iPod at a 'let's-screw-our-customer-level' of 5300 SEK!
Ladies and Gentlemen, that's US $501...

The CEO of Apple Sweden says that they are aiming towards the youth of today living a digital lifestyle! How many of them can afford it?

Out of interest.. The level of sales tax in the US varies from state to state. Right? Which is probably why US Apple dealers, including Apple themselves, are not able to accurately display prices including sales tax. So instead only show pre sales tax prices. In which case, surely the Americans will in actual fact be paying considerably more than $399 for an iPod?

Or am I completely wrong!? Oh well, i've pissed all over this thread by talking about US prices instead! Hmm, So, I think much over £300 inc VAT for an iPod would be considered too pricey for many people. Myself included. £300 or less and i'd certainly consider buying one.

iPod is now on the UK Apple Store website at £297 plus £6 shipping (!) plus £53 VAT, which comes to a massive £356 (US $509 at today's rates!)

As of now, Macwarehouse (UK) have it listed for £289 ex VAT, £339inc.

Gordon Harwood Computers have it listed for £348inc

I would be more interested in buying one if it was say £50-£60 less than it is now.

Mind you, I'm sure I can arrange an educational purchase so in theory I should be able to get one for the Macwarehouse ex VAT price seeing as how educational establishments are VAT exempt.

I don't know if we can get Education prices on the iPod. It's the same price in the AppleStore, and AppleStore Education.

I think it's a great product, but as a student there's no way on earth I'm going to be able to afford one until I graduate - in 2 years time!!

There seems to be no difference in the price in the Apple Ed store, which is a shame really.

Does any one know if the iPOD comes with a one year warranty in the UK compared to the USA?

I thought that it was the law for all electronic items (sold in the UK) to have at least a one year warranty?

Apple is charging the same price as they are in the United States. It is the tax that is pushing you over our price - why are you complaining to Apple when you should be complaining to your own government!

An American company should not have to eat into it's profit margins so that European countries with crazy sales taxes pay the same amount as in the states.

I believe it does. If you check out the Applestore UK terms and conditions it specifies that all Apple hardware sold through the store is supplied with a standard 12 month Apple warranty. I suspect that the recent 20 quid price rise was probably introduced to 'insure' Apple UK's increased liabilities (the 3 month US warranty seems to imply these things are not going to last particularly long).

If you Americans think the iPod is expensive at $399, how about the Finnish price for the iPod:

3990 FIM = 670 EUR = 610 USD!!!!!!

The price does include value added tax which is 22% here, but that still leaves a fat 30% extra margin for Apple Finland and the greedy Mac retailers.

All Apple products are priced like this over here and have always been - any wonder Macs have a market share of 1-2% in this country? If Apple wants to breathe some life in its international sales again, it could start by having a good look at the pricing its international branches are maintaining. $1590 for a 500MHz iMac DV? PowerBook G4 starting at $3150? With these prices, you need to be an idiot to buy a Mac in Finland.
