...As I can recall, Apple coined the term PDA.. the acronym for personal digital assistant. The phrase was pretty catchy, and now is used to describe all handheld electronic devices, from cheap electronic calenders to those fancy Pocket PC 2002s.. Considering this, I began to wonder where on earth Apple, the creator of really catching names (just look at the iMac for example.. now everything has an "i" as a prefix), could come up with a name "iPod" for an Mp3 player. when you strip away the "i", you get Pod, which doesn't have anything to do with music.

Simply put, I think that POD is an acronym for something.. the only thing that really rings a bell is Portable (something) Device, but what could the "o" be? or is that just nonsense? any suggestions?

this could possibly hint towards the future applications of the iPod, seeing how the name could mean more than mearly a "pod"

I once gave this whole iPOD idea at appleinsider before the digital hub was announced... My name there was ThE OutsiDer so if any of u remember that post, alot of ppl agreed and gave great feedback.

My iPOD was a monitorless imac that was really cheap, kinda like what the CUBE become but not as expensive. It was meant to be ultra affordable and aimed at the business market and home gamer.

I wouldn';t be suprised if apple reads these boards and takes our ideas and names.

Although I am not saying I have anything to do with the name, INTEL does own the rights for iPOD namesake, this will be interesting.
