This printer, HP 5550, is shared on my home network. The Macbook pro finds the printer and the print preview looks fine, but the print job spews out this line:
%!ps-adobe-3.0 %rbinnumcopies: 1 %%pages: (atend)
%apl_dsc_encoding: utf8 %%title: (a
then shoots out blank pages until the paper tray is empty. The only way to stop the job is to turn off the printer. You can't cancel the job except to print something from the pc, which has priority.
According to the HP site Tiger has the correct info for this printer, although if you pick HP from the Mac list you don't get the 5550 as an option.
I downladed Bonjour to the pc but it claimed the systen had no bonjour enabled devices.
I've only owned a Mac for about 3 weeks now so if I'm stupid please forgive me.

Did you ever resolve this problem? This is exactly the problem I am experiencing with a small office network. I can print to one of the printers, using IP address, but all others are as you described above.

This is all I can think of..Go to the print que, (located on the dock when the printer is printing a job), and look at the list, sometimes there will be an old print job there that the printer will try to finish, followed by the job you have. If this is the case, then just go to the top menu and delete it.
Good Luck.

I miss the days of the G5 and XPS Pentium 4 running side by side as high-end machines.

Nope, tried that. Also deleted the suspect printers and added them back in. But your sig line gave me an idea: I'll try logging on to the network through Bootcamp as an XP machine, and see what happens.
