Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a new cellphone now and I thought some of you might help me here. Personal experience, additional arguments or new cellphone suggestions are highly welcome!

I currently own a Sony Ericsson K700i which is now nearly two years old and tends to hang itself up here and there, sometimes does some weird things and distinctly looks like welcoming a successor.

What I want:
- Bluetooth
- MMS and E-Mail and GPRS
- A big memory for messages (the K700i can only save 100 messages - which I hate)
- An intelligent and ergonomic interface
- 100g to 150g
- not one that can be opened (what's the English word here?)
- small
- a good stand by time and a good talking time
- the ability to change the message and calling ringtone

So, I don't want much and I've already seen the K750i which seems to be close to what I want, but I'd be happy to consider alternative suggestions.

Thanks in advance!
Steve

I just got the W810i and I love it. nice small phone, but not too small like others. awesome display, bluetooth file transfers are sweet. the buttons are a little small, just takes some getting used to. the camera isnt bad either.

All in all, I was going to get the k750i, but since the company I work for gets a discount on Cingular plans, I went with the quadband w810i.

The K750i is getting old itself now, theres a new set of SE phones out or out soon including K610i, K800i and V630i (Vodafone only). If you want a walkman music phone theres the W700i, W800i and W810i (these three are all similar phones to the K750 though, except for the walkman software and bigger memory card.

These are on the UK site though, so the range may vary where you are. I'm pretty sure all of these fall into what you want. The name of a phone that opens is a flip phone or clamshell. Although there are a few phones that slide and twist around to open, and yes you should stay with Sony Ericsson.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

I have a SONY Z520i clam shell phone. I guess in the US all phones are locked to a provider and I am not sure how common GSM is there. Mine is a 4 band and unlocked - I bought it in Dubai for about $150.

The K750i is getting old, but that means it's cheap relative to those newer phones ajprice mentioned, while its camera is still tons better than the one on your K700i. hickey just told me he saw the K750i for $70 w/a contract in Philly, and if you're in NY or the Bay Area or some other place with more competition among import phone shops, you may be able to get it for even less. The W800i is the same hardware as the K750i with a different case, different (reputedly better) media player in firmware, and better accessory kit.

The W810i, though, as hickey mentioned, is quad-band (I think it has EDGE for data, too), and the K790/K800 apparently have a really incredible camera, but are some of the newest and probably very expensive.

Hi,

first of all, thanks for these comments and remarks. I looked around during the past days and I found the K750i indeed to be a venerable alternative. However, people have told me you can only save 150 messages on it - don't get that. They give me a 64 MB memory stick with it and let me save only 150 messages. I told this a friend of mine and he just replied: Well, probably the can only count this far.

Anyway, it looks good, although they want 60 Euros for it. Any good alternatives? I don't want a clam shell phone, but I want a good interface - I like the Sony Ericsson one - and I want to save more than 150 messages. Damn it.

Please help,
Steve
