i've got an imac (192mb) and a qps (usb) cd-writer.
When dragging files from a cd in the qps to my harddisk, my mac freezes totally!
The thing is, i CAN open files (like files into photoshop or xpress) without any problem from my qps!
Any ideas?

That's 'cause QPS totally sucks!
Their drives are seriously flaky. If you can, return it for a refund & buy a Sonay or LaCie drive. If not, buy the newest full commercial version of Toast.

uh...you're wrong heathan_b! No one agreed with your post in the previous Que! Firewire discussion, either! You either had a "lemon," or had your computer reconfigured incorrectly to be that unhappy with QPS.

eric, look in the previous post (in this "Peripherals" section) as I mentioned above - there are multiple suggestions you should consider, too numerous to list now. In general, most people were VERY satisfied with QPS quality, and I myself have had EXCELLENT results with my Que Firewire 8x4x32 CD-RW (after Outpost replaced the first defective unit - overnight!)

MacHomeJournal's August issue came out today, and reviewed several CD-RW units, and QPS got top honors there, also.

IMHO, QPS makes the best (current) CD-RW. Your USB drive will be more limited in speed, because of USB, but should work well. I burn EVERYTHING at 8x, without a problem!

Agree w/you iBorg ... factually Que! performs to professional sound standards. Looking to buy @ cheapest price. Do you know best price offering? MacMall is one, but I need to compare w/others. All suggestions appreciated.

Deedah... Check out egghead.com or outpost.com they are usually a lot cheaper than MacMall. I got my Que drive at egghead for $369 + tax. And that was 2 months ago.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

deedah33:

Outpost.com carried the Que Firewire 8x4x32 (lists for $399) for $389 until this week - they dropped the price to $349, minus a $30 rebate, for a net $319 - the cheapest I've seen.

If you're looking for the USB version, I'm not sure - I've bought from most of the Mac catalog and internet sellers, and I've always been happy with Outpost - they also include free overnight shipping.

I'm sure glad I got a 8x QueFire! Besides the fact that they burn great, they make Sony and LaCie drives look like drives from the early 90's. Oh wow!! look at the new Sony... it's beige with little blue feet, that's cool...

i had the same problem on my iBook until i started using high quality cd's. for some reason it would freeze if i used something like memorex cd's, but now that i'm using higher quality cd's it works great. you might want to also decrease the speed to 2x due to the usb situation
