OK, I got heck of a weird problem. I have 2 HP Printers: a 4MV and a 2500CM. I MUST print to these printers via TCP/IP, as AppleTalk is not allowed on the network. All machines are running MacOS 9.04. When I print to any of these HP Printers via AppleTalk, everything prints fine. If I print to them via TCP/IP (set up desktop printer for LPR), some of the documents I send end up printing one line of junk on top of a page and then ejecting the page, over and over, until I have a nice pile of garbage. When I called HP, they told me they only support AppleTalk connections to their printers, which kind of annoys me because you can print PostScript to them via TCP/IP in Windows. Does anyone have a possible workaround for this, so I can get these printers working again.

I have had some problems like this on my HP inkjet printer, which I print to via TCP/IP using a small attached print server.

I find that it is generally caused by a print job that gets interrupted by a crash or something like that. The solution for me is to restart/reset the print server. So maybe you could fix your problem by power cycling the printer. Some of those printers are configurable by telnet or a web browser, and often have a reset option available thru those. You may want to try that.

Hope this helps

I wish I could say that was the problem.... The same Quark file will print garbage every time unless I swich over to AppleTalk. Photoshop files will also print garbage.
