i got my hands on a sony cyber shot dsc-s50 and i want to record video from the camera to my powerbook. imovie doesnt reconginze the camera so i cant do anything from there. is there another program that i could use?

Do you mean the DSC-P50? If so that is just a digital camera, and you wont be able to record movies with it, unless you use its little MPEG EX thing built in, and then transfer them. I dont think you can use it as a webcam or for recording full motion video.

i had the same problem when i had my s50 - loads of small mpeg videos and no way to alter them without loosing sound. look through the archives and you'll see some messy options. what i did was take all my mpeg clips with me to the university computers that had media cleaner 5 and was able to covert them to DV (it was trial and error getting the right setting within media cleaner though and i can't remember off hand) and then importing them into imovie. in the end i sold the camera and went for a dv camcorder - though i still miss the cool pop out screen and really nice stills i could take. bottom line is that it's a great still camera with a cool video option - but i wouldnt ask too much of the video part
