First of all, do you all think that firewire is a better way to go than SCSI. Apple gave it the boot, but the industry seems to be holding onto it like crazy.

I've seen several SCSI CD-R's going at 12x write. I'm not sure if I have seen any Firewire ones. I heard rumors of La Cie having one, but I've heard it's not shipping.

Now can someone point me in the right direction?? Should I wait till after MacWorld?

What are the best performing companies in past?

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!

Definitely wait until after MacWorld. Who knows what may come out.

I recently bought a CD-RW. Searched every Mac board I know of for reports on both FireWire and USB drives. After reading everything, decided on a Yamaha 8424SXZ SCSI Drive. Works like a charm.

I love my Que 8x4x32 firewire drive. I've never made a coaster.

My old burner was a SCSI 2x and it made coasters all the time.

However I think it was more the fault of being a bad burner or slow computer, because SCSI is a good technology.

I would get a firewire drive for sure, unless you feel like buying PCI SCSI cards or adapters for your drive the rest of it's life.

Although Firewire is the future, there's some really cheap 8x SCSI burners about at the moment. I finally managed to get hold of the Firewire cable for my Freecom Traveller drive a few weeks ago and its been great. (It's only a 4x4x24 CD-RW, but the Firewire cable is a bit more secure than the USB one, and I can burn audio at 4x again ).
I'm gradually weening my B/W G3 off SCSI, with only one 9gig SCSI drive to replace internally now (I'll probably get a Sonnet Tempo UltraATA card and fill her up with a bunch of 30gig 7200 rpm ATA66 drives).
