I like it... even though I don't despise the puck as much as most, I think it's great... pics here and on my site soon! What do you think?
Cool, no?
Sorry about the xoom thing... it doesn't like people accessing stuff from remote servers like this. Refresh/reload the page or head over to my site: http://members.xoom.com/jg3mac

Ok, so let me get this straight; the new mouse has one button. Not two. Not three. One. And no scroll capability.
They added a little red light, some plastic, and a spring.
What?

Good point - I was disappointed with the lack of a second button, and a scroller would have been really nice. But the WHOLE THING is the button! That's neat, and people will appreciate the new shape. At $60 a pop, I'll get the new keyboard ASAP, but wait for my next computer purchase to get the mouse. Logitech has what you are looking for, tho - optical, 2 button with scroller.

It's absolutely worthless to me with only
one button. Idiots! I thought they would
finally get it. "Less is more"? Puh-lease.
A stupid cliche to hide the fact that less is
actually less. Elegant? Yes, but the simple fact
is that one button just doesn't cut it for games!
I thought Apple had a new "gamers" focus?
NOT!
Fortunately, Logitech gets it. They have
a cordless, optical, 3 button, wheel mouse.
Unfortunately, the radio module is PS/2.
Eventually they will offer a USB version.
Still waiting the clue-train to pull into
Apple's peripheral department. I'm not going
to hold my breath.

I've just got three quick questions:
1. How many people have actually used it? Do you like the way it feels?
2. So the entire top of the mouse is basically a big button, right? Or do the sides squeeze as well?
3. When you push the mouse, does it click or does the action register on the computer without any tactile feedback?

Does anyone know if the new mouse and keyboard will work with existing G4s?

For those b*tching about two mouse buttons:
Get a freaking life. The Macintosh has had one button since the introduction. Apple has NO REASON to confuse Mac users and add another. Grow up.

The new apple mouse is very cool looking and I love the commercial, but if you want a cool optical, 2 button and scroll mouse, take a look at logitechs new one.
http://www.logitech.com/cf/products/...verview.cfm/55
I got one ($29) and it is awesome. I've been using a one button mouse all my life, but it this mouse really makes me more productive. 2 buttons and a scroll wheel rock!
note: the bottom half is translucent red and glows when it is moved... very cool.

yeah, I can see it now. Someone will be screaming, "Margret, what the he%^# is this othur buttn fur".

Right,
Instead of supporting a second mouse button Apple implemented contextual menus as a key and mouse click combination, what could be less confusing than that? Well, at least they found a use for the control key.

1. Basically everyone at Macworld, not really. The mouse is really small- I think people will be surprised to find that you hold it almost the same way as a puck. Infact, your palm doesn't really touch it.
2. The front 2/3rds of the mouse is a button- it seems to pivot close to the back. The sides don't squeeze or pivot- you hold on to those little pads on the sides with your thumb and middle finger and click with your pointer.
3. It clicks

So I got the new Logitech optical mouse, and while I like how it feels, I think the tracking sucks. On my Powerbook, the cursor keeps jumping to the bottom right of the screen. I tried different surfaces, mousepads, etc., but no difference. It doesn't work wit USB overdrive at all (ie. the buttons don't register). Anyone else have a similar experience?

it is more appropriate to start your own thread on your logitech mouse issues... this thread is putatively about the new Apple mouse, no?
better yet, do a search of the fora for keywords 'logitech mouse' first, before posting

I wonder if there will be a util, either apple or share/freeware that will be able to read the location of the click (left or right) and be able to assign an action to it, a la Kensington MouseWorks. That would solve the problem huh?

Not possible. The mouse doesn't have sensors that would support that.

I have an Intelimouse Explorer and I find the extra buttons to be a big help while web surfing.
Back/Foward on side
Scroll Wheel
No More holding the button to control Click
Plus It's great for games

1. I have used it at a local Internet café, and it is very comfortable. I also have the similarly designed Apple Wireless Mouse at home, but haven't had time to use it extensively yet.
2. Yes, the entire top is the mouse button.
Whether or not the sides "squeeze" depends on what you mean by "squeeze." The mouse sensors don't register squeezing, but actually, according to my Apple Wireless Mouse instruction manual, the side button-like spots are reportedly designed to be held while lifting the mouse up with the top button pressed when the mouse has reached the end of a tracking surface and needs more dragging space. However, I have tried that function with the regular Apple Mouse, but it hasn't seemed to work well. I haven't yet tried that with my Apple Wireless Mouse.
3. Yes, the mouse audibly clicks when the top button is pressed. However, it doesn't click when the side button-like spots are pressed.

DekuDekuplex--
I think it was kind of you to answer a question asked 3.5 years ago! No one should complain that they don't get answers on this forum. Problem is that the poster never became a registered member, so we don't know if she/he read your answer. Anyway, I read it and agree with your answer exactly. I use the Apple mouse frequently with both my Macs and PCs. It doesn't have the right click--however, it is ergonomically, one of the best mice on the market. When my carpal tunnel problems are kicking up I often use it exclusively.

Ditto, I love being able to adjust the stiffness of the click. I love how it feels.
And I use another Logitec for gaming. No big deal.
