any cable customers (i'm Time Warner (NYC),) out there who have a high def. DVR, avail. from T-W?

the guy who came and hooked it up told me i could use its UBS port to hook it up to ANY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, and thus increase its storage capacity

believe it or not, the DVR holds 100 hrs of shows but only 20 in high def (gives you an idea how much more data is in HD, eh?)

anyway, 20 hrs ain't enuf, so i was gonna buy a 500 gig external (the DVR's is 80 gig), to give me plenty of disc space, but when i called T-W to confirm that this would work, they NOW tell me that it won't work and the guy was wrong to tell me that

does anyone out there have any experience w/this kind of situation? was T-W wrong then or are they wrong (lying?) now? the guy said something about the reason they don't "support" this is cuz it makes it easier for people to copy (steal?) shows

my T-W DVR is a "Scientific Atlanta, Explorer 8300 HD", and clearly has a USB port in the front

thanks in advance

btw, i AM a mac user and fan, if that helps justify the question being on this board! ; )
