Damn it, this is starting to show potential, thus making me want one.
There is a secret easter egg that lets u play breakout.
Now wouldnt it be good if apple released some sort of app that let u build your own games to share, a bit like the games that were available on sega dreamcasts VMU systems!

Imagine a simple game of galaga or frogger?!

I don't think so. This game is in the firmware and Apple is not going to help developers hack the ROM to input games.

On a side note, NotePad for OS 7.5 also had this game built in.

Like TI-86 Plus games?

Like a game called drug war, it would be easy to make a game like that because it doesnt need complicated controls or buttons.

IT would be cool

Ultimate gaming machine

Why would you want to spend $400 on a handheld game machine?

Buy a Dreamcast VMU for less than $10. It basically plays the same games.

I'd like to see Nethack myself but it won't happen. Putting games on this thing would be beyond difficult.
A history: Powerbook 15" 1.5 Ghz, Quickilver 1.2MP, iBook 600 DVD, Beige G3 266, Performa 638CD, Quadra 610 w/CD

I'd say the fun is more in the hacking rather than the game
seems the iPod is a very hackable device. but it'd be nice if apple releases an API for iPod

I would say that it would really only be worth it if you could play the games WHILE listening to music. Then this machine would be worth that $400. I think this hardware is much more powerful than what Apple is using it for. If it's powerful enough to play simple games then it can do a hell of a lot. It also has a great input method that could be very useful as an organizer of some sort. It would be nice if Apple could develop APIs for programmers so you can possibly view any Microsoft Word files that you have stored on the HD or something. That would truely make this machine worth the $400.

apple should just implement the "cloumns view" finder window (on OS X) in Ipod, so we can have limited ability to "Preview" files, and can browse around the harddrive quickly

well ... probably that'll never happen anyways .....

I totally agree! This thing has many more hidden features that Apple is waiting to explode with. The upgradable firmware and the giant hard drive can do some pretty amazing stuff i am sure
