Please tell me that Apple's new Crystal Clear discount means that Apple will be refreshing its LCD line at Macworld 2002. The promo ends just in time for the show (12/31/01)

Breakdown is this:

buy a 733Mhz - get $100 off any LCD
buy a 867Mhz - get $300 off any LCD
buy a 800Mhz DP - get $500 off any LCD

Okay I just had to check this out and the above text isn't exactly true... it's 'UP TO $500' off...

733Mhz + any LCD = $100 off
867Mhz + any LCD = $300 off
DP800 + any LCD = $500 off

CPU and LCD must be purchased at the same time... yadda yadda yadda. Still an okay deal but not as good as 'any g4' + lcd = $500 off.

It sure means something, although it could also mean that Apple is refreshing the G4 towers soon.
This is a huge saving on a great product and we know apple wouldn't offer such a big discount unless they had to get rid of some inventory quickly.
I don't even want to speculate, but the only three possibilities that come to mind are:
new displays,
new towers
too much inventory of towers and/or displays.

What improvements could be made to the displays? Is the technology improving in terms of speed or resolution?

I posted a topic about the prospect of new lcds about a week ago, and although this is a sweet deal, and I was about to jump on the dual 800 and lcd, I'm holding off for the 20" to come out, and G5s...not saying that the latter will be at MWSF, but I definitely think the former will be....

I hope they make new towers.. the PowerMac is getting, well, a little old.. other than a few colour changes, the powermac hasn't had any significant design change which it needs

Well, personally I am hoping for a refresh in the LCD monitor lineup - if not a technology refresh than at least a price drop (I really like the current 17" LCD). I kind of wince at the thought of spending $999 on a monitor (even though it is a totally stunning product and it would work awesome with my Cube)...

My poor, nearly 7 year old AppleVision 1710AV monitor is dieing... it made a really loud pop last night and the tube went dead. I let it cool off and it's now back from the dead today. I really hope it can hang on for another few months! I love this moniter!
