i bought the $29 ipod camera connector from the apple store the other day and it's pretty cool. the problem is i have a 2 gig sd card for my digicam and when i plug my camera into the ipod via the connector to start the transfer, my camera's battery doesn't last long enough. not only that, but i think the ipod might compensate and take the load of the power consumption because immediately after the camera shuts down the ipod shuts down too!

so i'm left with two out-of-power devices and only a portion of my photos/videos were transfered. if i bought a usb card reader would that work? also is the camera connector a usb 2.0 device? i know my camera is usb1 because it's extremely slow.

Some card readers will work, but by no means all of them. I think a fast USB2 reader is the way to go with the Camera Connector, but I can't be of any help in recommending a good one since I haven't managed to find one yet myself.

So...bump!

i'm still looking for one! i've been researching and it's really tough to even find a single external reader that will work. there also seems to be a lot of question whether the device itself is capable of transferring at usb2.0 speeds.

is this device even usb 2.0?

Do I understand the question to be can you connect a usb card reader into the small camera adapter from apple? I had no idea this was even possible. I thought they sold a more expensive card reader that connects to the ipod.

Yep, that's the question (he answers on the OP's behalf). It'd be a great thing for those people with cameras that don't have fast USB connections, and for those who don't want to carry the cables around with them.
