Okay... here it goes. My Lacie d2 DVD-R/RW drive burns CDs and 8x DVDs fine. However, I purchased some Memorex DVD-R discs (16x) and the burner says it's incompatible media. What the hell? So I went and brought back the Memorex and got Maxell (16x) and it did the same exact Error. I looked all over Lacie's website for any information about this and I even downloaded the latest firmware update (which told me there was nothing to update). So, I don't know what's going on but, it's making me mad. I even went and found the original packaging for my drive. It clearly states that it can burn 16x DVD-R.
Also, my drive is the one without Lightscribe and it came with Toast 6 Titanium (full).
I really would appreciate it if anyone knew what's happening or how I can fix it.

Maybe the DVD's you bought are not 8X compatible? Used to happen to me all the time with CD's, some new CD's weren't capable at writing at the slow speed of my burner. Never happened to me with DVD's though.

On the package it even says 1x-16x so it can write anywhere up to 16x but, that's not the point because my DVD drive is 16x writable. It's got the NEC 3500 in it. There's gotta be a different reason... this is the second brand I've purchased and they both suck.

Did you verify the drive mechanism with Apple System Profiler?

Okay guys, I figured out my problem but, it wasn't easy. I was looking in the wrong place ( www.lacie.com) because Lacie doesn't actually make the drive.... NEC makes the drive. So I ended up going to www.nec.com and finding the proper firmware for my NEC DVD-RW 3500AG and I finally found it but, not for long... the firmware update was a .exe file... ugh. NEC didn't have a Mac version of the firmware so, I had to do more research and found that there is a Mac app called necflashX and I had the ability to load the .exe update into necflashX. So I was able to use the official NEC release firmware update on my drive and now I can burn 16x DVDs. Sweet. It's funny that Lacie had nothing to mention about this. How do they expect normal users of their drives to figure all this out by themselves?
