Despite the fact that Toshiba's web site specifically states in the FAQ section that "Apple Power Macintosh" computers are not compatible with this drive, I've found a number of compatibility reports that state otherwise (found on xlr8yourmac.com).

So,

A) Does anyone have one of these attached to their Beige G3 or other Power Mac?

B) And if so, which one was it...the 4x4x24 or the 8x8x24? I beleive that the model numbers were 1002 and 2002 respectively.

C) What kind of issues/performance results have yuou experienced?

Thanks!

So, no one else has done this? Moderators, any ideas for other resources?

I installed the Toshiba SD-R1002 model in my B&W G3. It works perfectly in both OS 9 and X. I hacked the ToshibaCDR support file in both 9 and X to get iTunes support (as well as DiscBurner in 9) as per the instructions at xlr8yourmac.com:
http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/action...59&-search

Plays audio CD's and DVD's very well too, and has booted any system CD I've ever thrown at it (with the exception of the OS X PB CD).

The SD-R1002 is the 4x4x4x24 desktop model. Despite the Toshiba claim that it is a PC-only drive, I've had no problems with it (of course, YMMV).

The SD-R2002 is the 4x4x6x24 notebook model (which I've heard is the one used in the iBook (Dual USB) with Combo drive).

The SD-R1102 is just the faster version (8x8x8x32) of the SD-R1002.

I highly recommend this drive to anyone looking to save some desk space and consolidate DVD-ROM and CD-RW into one device.

dpfenniger,

Did you add a DVD decoder card to unlock the "extras in the DVDs, and if so, which one?
