I just bought a USB memory stick that has U3 capability, this might come in handy when using it on a PC, but since i don't need this "feature" i want reformat the stick which yields me another 60 MB of memory currently used by the U3 software.

The problem is that when i insert the stick into my macbook, it not only mounts as "intuix memory stick" but it also mounts a disc labeled "U3 system". This also shows up in disk-utility.
I wonder if i can just reformat the intuix disc to get rid of the extra U3 part. (U3 is not a partition in diskutil, but realy a sepparate drive).

Another annoying thing is that both the intuix and U3 disk have to be ejected in finder before the stick can safely be removed.

Any thoughts on how to solve this would be welcome.

If it shows up as a whole separate drive, then reformatting won't do it. That's why they have Windows-based utilities to disable the U3 function.

There was just a thread about this, right here in this forum, within the past few days. You should look for it.
