Hi,
I have one of those CD-RWs (Teac CDWE54E) and a PowerBook G4.
I didn't have much use it to it, but I *have* used it a couple of times before, with OS 9.xx and Toast 5. Now, I have installed OS X (but I kept OS 9 in its partition), and now Toast can't find the recorder anymore (under OS9!).
I have tried all sorts of permutations with those USB extensions, and nothing will make it work again!

You're talking about OS 9 startup, not in Classic, right? Because Toast won't see anything in Classic, or at least it won't write. I suspect the problem is not OS X, but perhaps you installed newer versions of Disc Burner or Authoring Support, which break Toast compatibility? If yes, disable these extensions, restart and see if the drive is seen. If not, try reinstalling Toast, and plugging in the burner (powered on) with Toast open, and click the bottom of the window where it says No Recorder Found (Toast 5).
