My new iMac has mouse trouble. It locks up so that the screen cursor only moves in the horizontal direction, no vertical control. This problem is intermittent - frequency is about twice a week. It seems unrelated to what application program I'm using. Also unrelated to what I'm doing with the mouse. I've also ruled out any contact problem between the tracking ball and rollers. Shutting down the computer seems to temporarily fix it. What should be my approach to solving this? Is the mouse defective or do I have a software problem? When the mouse is vertically locked, I can still use keyboard commands to close windows or quit the application. Thanks.
