Well, I have a Umax Astra 600S from about 1 1/2 years ago, which is a scsi scanner... I downloaded Umax's VistaScan and MagicScan dortware from their site... both work great and some do better things than others... Included with them, is a control panel/extention that puts your scanner on your Local area network... My Home Network consist of a G4, Blueberry 333Mhz imac, an ancient performa 460, and my Power Mac 6400... I networked them on an ethernet network being controlled by appletalk.... First, you need an understanding on how to get Apple talk working. Once you are networking your machines properly, install the Umax software on the machine you want to scan on. make sure you install the scanning network extentions on both computers. The computer hooked to the scanner must be using a SCSi scanner.. I don't know about USB scanners, since the software looks at your scsi devices for a scanner..

I might of confused you, so if you have any problems, e-mail me... Michael@dj-net.com

Also, it helps to have UMax's Software & a Umax SCSI scanner...

Mike.

Hi all. I have a 610S SCSI hooked up to a 8500 who in turn is networked via a 4 port 10/100 hub to two powerbooks. On one of the powerbooks, a G3/266, the scanner appears through the UMAX Chooser. However, on the other PowerBook, a G3/400 Lombard, I haven't been able to make it appear. The computers can network ok, I can exchange files, etc.

All of the computers are running the same system software, 9.04, same VistaScan software 3.51 and same apps. I upgraded to 3.51 from the original 2.4x (I think) VistaScan software that came bundled because I thought the problem was the older software. I have tried the following:

- Running with minimal extensions + UMAX Chooser and software
- Downloaded Apple's Duplexer tool which lets you choose the Ethernet speed (10 or 100) and Duplex (full or half). Tried all four configurations but didn't work either.
- Tried different versions of VistaScan, but no luck.

Any suggestions? It seems to me it is a problem with the Ethernet implementation of the PB G3/400 since it works fine with the PB G3/266 that runs only at 10Mbs.

The 10/100 Ethernet hub is a Netgear DS104.

Thanks,

Mauro
