Hi,

I attended a workshop where the facilitator handed out Logitech webcams to everyone in the group in otder to do web conferencing together. Those of us with Macs read on the Logitech box that it was only Windows compatible, so the facilitator asked us to let her know what camera would work and she would reimburse/replace the Logitech with something that will work for us.

Can anyone tell me what cameras will work and what other things I need to know in order to be part of the web conferences with the others who are PC? Sure would appreciate your advice.

I just read where Yahoo has something that's cross platform for Macs and PC--is that something I could use? The main question is what camera should I buy?

Thanks,

Hamamac

This really depends on what software they're using for the conferencing and if they have a Mac compatible version. I would start here.

Yahoo did just release a beta of their messanger program that does video but I belive it's one to one video chat. Don't quote me on this though, I haven't used it yet.

As far as cameras, the iSight from Apple is a very good one. You could also use the USB camera by installing iChatUSBCam. Do a little research to make sure it'll work with more apps then iChat. My guess is it would.

Definately get apple's iSight. Thereafter, the best cross platform conferencing I've seen is SightSpeed (untill Skype gets their act together). Sightspeed is free for one-to-one, you pay about 5 bucks per month to be able to convene multi person conferences, participants don't have to pay. Great quality. Please, save yourself time and pain, and don't go the usb route....
