I'm thinking about buying a Powerwave to replace the stereo that's been cluttering up my desk. I looked around on Griffin's web page, but I couldn't find any detailed specs. I was specifically wondering how many watts per channel the thing can crank out. I would be powering a pair of Bose 301 speakers with it.

If anybody has any comments or advice, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

are you sure the powerwave is what you want? sure, the powerwave has all the connections: 1/8" in and out, RCA in and out, apple pro speaker out, and standard stereo speaker outs (spring-loaded clips). but if you have a G4 533, doesn't that have the digital audio jack for using the apple pro speakers? if it does, you should just use that to run your speakers, instead of a USB to audio box like the powerwave.

griffin also sells the ProSpeaker breakout cable. it plugs into the digital audio jack, and has standard speaker outs (spring loaded) at the end of the cable.

looking at the specs of the digital audio jack on the G4's, it is used to power up the apple pro speakers, putting out 20 watts, or 10 watts per channel. i checked the specs on the Bose 301's, and they are compatible with receivers from 10 watts to 150 watts. i think you'd be able to drive the 301's using the ProSpeaker breakout cable no problem, it probably just won't be as loud as running it from a more powerful receiver/amp. but it should be adequate.

and the ProSpeaker breakout cable is only $25, versus $99 for the Powerwave.

[EDIT: WHOOPS! i just saw in your sig that you also have an iMac. if you want to run the 301's from the iMac, then you're only choice is the PowerWave, as the iMacs don't have a DA out.]
