This is perhaps the most mainstream source where I've seen rumors of a Windows iPod. MacMinute is quoting some analyst as saying that we'll see a "Windows iPod" in July.

I hope that it's true! However, Apple, please, please don't mess this one up and have a separate iPod for the PC and iPod for the Mac! If only the software is different -- but the iPod itself is the same -- then that would be a wonderful way to get PC users to migrate to the Mac! That would be great.

Let's hope that it's true -- finally, Apple will be breaking into the enemy camp. . . .

It's no longer a rumor. It's already been confirmed by PC hardware sites and Toshiba representatives that Toshiba will be doing a PC-branded version of the iPod. It is identical to the Macintosh version, except it uses USB 2.0 instead of Firewire.

A Windows iPod (made by Apple) confirmed as fact? Where did you see that? Apple sure hasn't confirmed anything like that.

There is a Toshiba iPod-type player, but it isn't an iPod for Windows, it's their own music player, and is somewhat different from Apple's iPod. For one, it has removable media. Yeah, it uses USB 2.0. But it's not idenitcal to the iPod in any way, other than it's basic similarities because it's a hard-drive-based music player.

This is MacCentral's story on the Toshiba player.

I couldn't imagine Apple licensing their product to anyone else, and letting them use their name instead of Apple, on what everyone knows to be an Apple product anyway.
