This is a mock up I did of what I think Apple should do for a digital video and still camera all in one. It would be a lot like the iPod. No tapes, instead it uses a 60GB HD. When you plug it into iMoive it detects the camera and downloads all your clips in seconds. For anyone that has done any video editing I think they would agree with me when I say the worst part about editing a video is getting the clips from the camera onto the your computer. The iCam would only have 2 ports a AV port and a Firewire port. It would have a small B/W LCD screen on the back for monitoring sound levels and status. It would be about 6" by 6".

What do you think?

No, this is my idea for a photo camera:

Either removable or HD (preferrably big-arse HD)
Focus on lens, CCD, and NOT STUPID OTHER FUNCTIONS!!!
All I want to do is take photos, review on-camera, and upload to computer. Zoom and detachable lenses yes, firewire, and a nice long battery. Simplicity. Good Quality.

For a video camera,
adjustable resolutions (!!!!)
no extra features. record, playback and off. (uploads by plugging in, doesn't ahve to be in any mode). Good lenses (maybe different ones attachable), and a nice CCD (maybe 3 or 4?).

SIMPLICITY QUALITY

I don't like it :

1) Lens is WAY too small for use as a Camera and a Camcorder VERY limited Zoom capabilities.

2) Joint between the camera and LCD looks real flimsy, I'd be afraid to fold it like you show.

3) 6" x 6" is VERY small. With the lens housed in a 1" wide space there is next to no space for any SERIOUS electronics needed to run a digital camera and a Camcorder.

4) Since there's no thickness measurement I can only assume it's the same thickness as an iPod. I'm guessing you've housed this 60GB HD (that doesn't exist in said iPod thickness 20GB is about the largest I've seen) in the space behind the LCD. Is that correct?

Good rendering but not a very good product IMHO. Not very Apple.

personally I think that is an awful design for a camera/camcorder....

first of all the your icam sits face down leaving your lcd screen unprotected - not a good idea

second what about the lens - there is nothing even out like it in todays market - so far it would be nearly impossible to create - belive me i know what im talking about i do some serious photography in my free time, and a little bit of amature film making with my friends. in 10 years maybe 5 we might have something that uses a lens like that but not now... and no zoom? lol come on.... why do you think cannon and nikon are leading the back with 6.1 megapixal cameras? sure thier prices are way out there (3,000 bucks) but why are they so accepted? because they use curent 35mm zoom lens.

third - the price 1000 bucks? ha don't make me laugh you can get a 3.1 camera with a 16x zoom for 400 500 bucks. and a digital camcorder for 500 600 bucks - why do you want those two things in one? most people that own the curent sony digital camcorders Never use the memory stick option... the quality just isn't acceptable

i apolgize about my spelling or lack there of - i just thought Id like to point a few things out....

2) It is the same size as any other consumer camera out there I have not had one of those break. And this one is metal

3) Ahh come on Apple could do it. It might take a little work though, but definently not impossible.

4) The thickness shut at it's highest point would be about 2.5". The HD would probably just be a laptop HD but the iPod one would be cool to (if they had a 60GB one)

Ok and maybe the price was a little optimistic.
