evening all,

i'm looking at picking up a sony g420 19" fd trinitron monitor to replace my aging apple 17" crt studio display and notice in the specifications it is mentioned that the g420 has 'dual switchable inputs'.

just wondering if anyone knew just exactly what this feature is and what it allows?

i'm also thinking of picking up a pc box, so what i'm hoping to do is share the monitor and switch between the pc and mac.

any help most appreciated.

cheers,

I have dual Sony 19PS (19") running on my G3 and they're sweet. They have a set of BNC inputs on the back in addition to the vga input so you could by a vga to bnc cable or make one yourself depending on the lenght you need since they are expensive(you can get the connectors and rgb cable at fry's for fairly cheap). There's an input select button on the front of the monitor easy switching. The monitor you intend to buy probably has a similar setup, but check it out first.

It probably will, you will just need to buy or make an additional cable ( I am able to make a lot of custom length cables from my hometheater installation experiences and resources). I checked the specs on your monitor and and saw that it has a 5bnc connection. A cable like this will cost you anywhere from 50 to $150 up depending on the quality and manufacture. I can't tell you whether you will have sync or resolution problems, but to be on the safe side you could always get a KVM switch box to hook up both machines to. Also, make sure you buy from a reputable store in case you have problems or need to return it(I'd hate to have a useless $150 cable lying around). Hope this helps...
