I'm interested in getting a Cinema HD Display, but the only way I can justify one for work is if it can be used with a PC if needed.

Can the Apple Cinema HD Display be connected to a DVI port of a PC (via ADC-to-DVI adapter)?

Apple's spec page only lists PowerMacs as compatible, but it does for the regular 22" Cinema Display as well, and I know for a fact that screen can be used with a PC using a Dr Bott DVIator (and presumably Apple's new DVI-to-ADC adaptor intended for the Ti-Book).

However, the Dr Bott site has this to say about the 23" Cinema Display:

The Apple 23" Apple Cinema HD Display has not yet been tested. At this time we believe it will be impractical to operate this display via DVIator.

"Impractical" doesn't sound good. But why wouldn't a PC-based DVI video card that could go to 1920x1200 work?

Anyone have an answer?

I have a Apple 15" LCD I use with my G4 350 & an aftermarket ATI Radion card, I got it with the Apple DVI-to-ADC adapter and am experiancing no problems. As it is working fine with this DVI card I see no reason why it would be any differnt on a PC (the only difrence between a direct ADC connection and using the adapter, is that the Power button on the Display does nothing)

Food for thought. I heard somewhere that the DVI connector has a bandwidth limit, and the resolution of the HD display might be too big for that limit, meaning that over DVI, you might have to run in a lower resolution. Not sure if this applies to this setup, but it might.

If the DVI transmitter in the video card is running at 165MHz, then it is capable of displaying 1920*1200. But if there is a bandwidth problem within the DVIator, then this could cause problems.
