I did a search on this forum and could not find a problem related to mine. Forgive me if I ramble on about this problem but I need to in order to explain it all! I got for Christmas an Iomega ZipCD external USB burner. My 6360 is upgraded with a Newertech 400 MHz G3 upgrade card and a Keyspan USB card and running OS 8.6 with 88 MB RAM with virtual memory on to 89 MB. I have not changed OS or added any software (other than downloading Adaptec Toast 4.1.2 updater). The burner worked fine until about 3 weeks ago. I get an error message saying that there is buffer underrun (write error - loss of streaming) along with some Sense Key error = Medium error and a Sense Code error = OxOc, OxO9 (whatever that means!!) I contacted Iomega support and they had me go to miminum extensions and it worked fine for 1 burn. When I run the burn in simulation mode all is fine but when I actually try to burn I get the error message. I have the Toast program set to run on 12 MB RAM minimum and 20 MB preferred. The RAM cache in Toast preferences is set to 16. I burn on 2X only. I use Imation CD-R discs. Needless to say Iomega tech help was no help! I tech they told me it would not work on my 6360 since it did not come with USB installed - the USB card works fine for my HP USB printer and my digital camera! Another tech said that the burner does not work with OS 8.6 (even though the box says it does!) Do I have to switch to OS 9? Or should I scrap this system (which I can't afford to do) and buy a new iMac? Any ideas on how to correct this problem (if possible) will be appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like you're on the right track with the buffer set to 16mb and all. But the basic idea is that if it worked before, it should work now. Try dumping the Iomega software suite and reinstall clean (as clean as you can, at least). I've got a Pismo Powerbook and a iomega Predator CD-RW and have been very happy with the setup. Give it a shot and let us know.

BTW, is everything else OK with your system?
