I just got a brand new spanking 40GB Maxtor HD for my desktop beige G3, only to find out that the plastic bracket that holds the hard drive in place is so tightly secured to the metal case that I can't find a way to remove it or get to the screws?!!! Can anyone help?

check out www.xlr8yourmac.com I think they have a guide that illustrates how to do exactly what you're trying to accomplish.

that was the first place I visited? No info regarding the desktop model. They have a tutorial on the tower beige G3 but in that model the screw is easily accessible. In the beige G3 the plastic bracket is basically bolted to the metal case!

Xlr8YourMac isn't that organized, why does everyone refer questions to that site!?

The hard drive is attached to a plastic sled that slides onto the mounts that are secured to the case. There is a plastic tab that is at one end of the drive, I believe facing into the middle of the machine, that you need to lift up, then slide forward. Once you have that out, you have access to the screws that hold the sled to the drive. Transfer the sled to the new drive then slide it back into place.
