A few months ago I bought a Dell 2405 LCD monitor. Worked great, sharp colors, etc., etc. Recommended.

But.

A few weeks ago windowserver was acting gonky on me, taking up 99% of my CPU for hours. So... I killed it. Software update had me do something a few days later, and when I rebooted my monitor wasn't found, i.e. nothing in the Displays preference pane other than a generic VGA monitor. "Detect Displays" does absolutely nothing.

And that's where I stand today: a nice, large LCD monitor, but I can't use it at any resolution past 1600x1200. OS X just cannot find it, and I don't know what to do to force recognition.

I've googled quit a bit on this and haven't come up with much. The monitor is there, and working, it's just that OS X isn't finding it for some reason.

Suggestions?

Maybe you have a faulty vga cable? Have you tried DVI? Check to make sure the connections are seated correctly.

Good luck!
