Hi

From time to time my monitor starts to flicker (goes dim, bright, dim, bright.....etc.). This is a one and a half year old 21" apple studio display "graphite"connected to a PCI graphics G4. The first months when i had it it rarely happened, but lately it has been going on more frequently. A few months back i also upgraded to a radeon graphics card and this did`nt do any difference. I have also tried to move some other devices around (zip, cdrw, lamps, isdn modem etc) to different locations on my desktop in case of electric disturbance, but this have not given any results either. Anyone had similar problems or know a fix for this? Could it be software related?

Thanks
Tom

Try plugging it into a different electrical outlet.

Also make sure your refresh rate is above 75.

Hi

Sorry for my delayed reply. I`m using a 85mhz refreshrate, so guess i`m safe there. I do however feel very unsecure about my electrical wiring in the apartment (it`s an old place). If i find this to be the problem, is there some kind of device to stabilize the power between the electric outlet and the computer?
A really long shot, i know...:-)

Thanks
Tom

Tomra,

You can purchase a surge protector to help alleviate the bad wiring in your place, but from the sounds of it, I think your monitor may be going bad. I've had a couple Apple monitors (which is why I never buy their CRTs anymore) go out on me and the long, slow spiral into death began with that color flickering.

But give Apple Customer Service a call. Even though my monitor was a year out of warranty, I was still able to get a credit from them to use in purchasing another monitor (went with a 15" LCD).

Good luck!

Hi

Thanks Q. I`ll give my nearest repair shop a call. Too bad if this thing is about to lie down and die. The monitor has really been wonderful in all aspects except the above mentioned problem.

Thanks again :-)
Tom
