i have a G4 400 with the stock rage128 pro video card. i just bought a Formac 1740 lcd monitor with an ADC connector.
the monitor gets power (blinking sleep led) but no video.
are there any known issues with g4's and the ADC output?
thanks...

The issue here is if your Power Mac G4 is the original model it didn't come with ADC as "natively supported", first ones getting it were Gigabit Ethernet models, hence if yours isn't one of those you would need some kind of adaptor to get it working.

the G4 boots fine and all processes are running, just no image on the monitor. the monitor power light blinks like it's sleeping (like the G4 does).
the vga port still works.
in the displays pref pane it only shows "vga display".

It seems to be pretty much like this FAQ @ Formac site:
http://formac.netistic.net/support_e...l.php?faqID=13
Question: The Gallery's LED is blinking but there is no picture on the screen.
Answer: A blinking LED on your display indicates that the display is in sleep mode and does not detect any graphic signal from your computer. There might be several reasons/solutions for this: 1) The display was not connected in the right way. Please turn off your computer unplug the display and reconnect it in the right sequence: a) Start with computer powered down and no other display attached b) Connect the power cable to the FDC plug of your display c) Connect the USB to the computer d) Connect the usb to the 2010 cable e) Finally; connect the DVI port to the Computer and boot 2) If the power supply of your monitor is connected to a power strip please unplug it from the strip and plug it directly into the wall. Then please follow the sequence mentioned above on how to connect your monitor. 3) Your video board is set to the wrong resolution AND frequency settings. If you previously used a CRT and replaced it with the Gallery display; the graphic board might still be set to the resolution settings of your old display. Please, a) reconnect your old display b) set the resolution to specifications supported by the Gallery display (Gallery 2010: 1;600 by 1;200 @ 60Hz; Gallery 1740/1900: 1;280 by 1;024 @ 75 Hz) c) shut down your computer d) connect your Gallery display (in the right sequence as mentioned above) e) boot your computer 4) Your video drivers are not up to date. Please make sure that you use the latest video drivers for your operating system. NVidia and ATI both allow the free download of drivers from their website. 5) Your video settings are ok but have to be reset. Please zap your PRAM 3 times (Hold the OPTION + APPLE + P + R keys before you start your computer. The chime has to ring three times before you can release the keys). 6) If you are using the ADConnect (DVI to ADC converter box from Formac) with the 17" monitor please make sure that you connect the power cord and the ADC cable of the display to the ADConnect first before connecting it to the computer. Then turn the monitor on and then boot the computer.
Hope this helps, while I have an ADC Power Mac, my display is an 'old' 21 CRT Apple Studio, which so far has no ADC connector.

thanks for finding that. most of that i've done, the 1740 only has the one ADC cord, no USB input or power cord. resolution is correct.
i did the pram, but only once not 3 times.
i'll check ATI or drivers.
the monitor is at a friend's house, he's going to check it with a few macs and different video cards.
as long as the monitor really works then i'm ok, i have 7 days to return it. i can deal with having to buy a better card
thanks again.
