I got a disturbing mail from a chap called Jeff today, he'd connected up his new Apple 17" LCD to his 733/Geforce3 and booted into OS9, all looked great until he ran the Software installer that came with the display...

Now straight from restart he has a horrible vertical line running down the left side of his new screen. He tried switching back to his old extensions but still gets the line.

I never ran the installer when I received my 17" LCD, I simply opened up the Tome file and pulled out the newer extensions which were:

Apple Monitor Plugins
USBAppleMonitorModule
ColorSync Extension
Default Calibrator

The Nvidia Extensions are only v2.0 whereas the Geforce3 shipped with v2.1, the more worrying thing is that there seems to be an Nvidia Geforce2MX ROM flashing Extension/App in the Tome that is listed as ROM 1038F , the Geforce3 has the ROM 1045.

My concern is that it has flashed his Geforce3 with an older ROM causing this vertical line. I have asked him to check what his ROM revision is but for now:

I do not recommend that Geforce3 owners install the OS 9 software that comes with the 17" Studio Display, just install the extensions above from the Tome file using an App called TomeViewer (check versiontracker for a download)

I will let you know if his card was flashed to the older ROM as soon as possible.

I may have jumped the gun with this one guys, apparently this problem has cropped up in the past with other displays, could something simple, apologies.

You still only need to use those 4 extensions if your Nvidia drivers are at v2.1 though.
