Hi people,

I am interested to hear of experiences from any of you who have used external firewire dvd rom drives with their macs.

I have a cdrw g4 imac and am thinking about buying a firewire enclosure and sticking an ide dvd-rom drive in it, so that my machine has the capability to play dvd movies and dvd rom discs.

Just wondering if these tend to work well with standard software (eg quicktime & toast).

The one I have in mind is the Snowline firewire 5.25" enclosure with a standard sony dvd-rom drive (the retailer sells it prepackaged).
MacBook Alu, 13", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256MB video
G5 Imac, 17", 1.9Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB video, built in isight, airport and bluetooth
Indigo iBook, 366mhz; 320MB RAM; CD; FW; Airport
