In your opinions what is the best A4 scanner out there?
I am willing to pay up to $500, need pc/mac connectivity, it would be nice to scan photographic slides, but high quality is more of a priority.
Many thanks knowledgable people,
monkpea

It's a $399 A4 flatbed that will scan transparencies as well. Critical users tell me it will scan 35mm adequately for web use, but not print output unless your requirements are modest. But it is supposed to be very good for medium and large format transparencies and prints. Of course it is not as good as a dedicated film scanner, but still very good and a fraction of the price.
If you want really good 35mm slide quality you would do better to save your pennies for a Canoscan FS4000US. At circa $900 it is the cheapest 4000dpi film scanner and it is supposed to be very good.
I think you will need <a href="http://www.hamrick.com" target="_blank">Viewscan</a> to use them with OS-X.

Maybe not as feature-laden as Vuescan, but it seemed functional.
