Hey,

I'm new here but I plan on picking up a macbook in the next few days. I was wondering what locking device would be good for my macbook, I will be traveling overseas with it and need something that I can secure to a desk or what not while I am out and about.

Am I correct in thinking that the macbook has a factory installed "lock port" on the macbook? Thanks!

the macbook does indeed have a security slot built in. if your picking up from an apple store they usually have a couple to pick from. personally i use the one that mine carries (cant remember the name) but its a 4 digit combo lock and its silver. i've a keyed one as well, but having to hang onto the key or remembering where you hid it can be annoying if your in a hurry compared to the combo lock.
on the combo lock, i have not had any problems with the length of the cord that it comes with.

have fun

The MacBook has a "Kingston standard" lock slot. Be careful in buying a lock though-you want one that will fit snugly against the computer at the lock slot. Also, there have been keyed lock models that are trivial to unlock, so I'd buy a combination model.

Check out the iAlertU for the Macbook http://www.slappingturtle.com/home/?p=12

It's not what you were looking for but it may help for security, it's a Macbook alarm.
