I'm not quite sure whether this message should be in this forum or not (I'm sure a moderator will correct me if I'm wrong), but I'll post it anyway.

I've just got my hands on a 21" multiscan 500ps, but since it has been sent via courier for a good 100 miles, it has become out of focus. I have tried adjuting my convergence settings to try and ease this to no avail.

Everything (especially text) appears distincyly ouyt of focus, and it can ve very sore on the eyes. Does anyone know a way of focusing this, or for that matter anyway round the problem?

Thanks in advance :-)

Neil

Most monitors still have a focus control, but it's inside the case and is really only meant for technicians to adjust. If you're brave you might be able to open it up and get to it (be *very* careful! I've done it but it's pretty scary) or if you know a monitor or TV tech they could probably adjust it for a fee.

Whoa, slow down, first things first
Mine is the same sometimes, I've gotta take it in.
But what I recommend you do, is using the OSD (on screen display and controls - the buttons at the front of the monitor), see if you can find the option to "degauze" the monitor.
That will make it shake and go funny, and recalibrate.
Give that a shot before anything else, then try using the OSD to change other settings...

Thank for your help Davidarm and Cipher, I appreciate it!

I've already tried every trick I know to try and make it appear focused (degaussing etc. even fiddling with the convergence moire and landing setting!).

I may have to resort to 'fiddling with the inside'. I have a friend who used to work with TV's, maybe I'll ask him to have a look at it.

Thanks

While on the topic,

does anyone here have experience with tweaking iMac convergence settings, or focus for that matter? We have a bunch of iMacs (rev. A,C and D atleast), about 18 or so, and their convergences differ wildly.

Obviously, as there seem to be no buttons outside the case or inside the software, it's up to an experienced technician, but I was wondering whether someone here is an experienced technician or has had their iMac serviced?

Can't help you much there, but... for any of you thinking of tinkering inside your iMac, watch out - those CRTs can hold a charge of up to around 30 000 volts.
Yeah, no joke... let it discharge for a while, and ground it!
Bettr yet, don't even think about doing it yourself - take it to a technician.
