Since the apple store is selling this for $59, I think I will get one. The problem is, I have a small area where my computer is setup. We have it on one of those roll away wood desks, which have the pull out keyboard drawer. So , in other words, there is no place really to put it directly on the floor.
The desk has compartments for the printer, and other things. The only really decent place to put it is on the left side, where there is a tall area where traditionally a tower would go.
Since I have an imac, which obviously does not have a tower, do you think it will sound good there? Or does it have to be directly on the floor of my house, and not on the wood desk?

Thanks,
MS

Is the location you're talking about enclosed by cabinetry, or is it open to the air? If it's open to the air, it should be OK. If it's enclosed by cabinetry, you'll tend to get reverberation and vibration.

Does your desk have shelving? If so, you could try putting it on the very top of the cabinet.

A subwoofer doesn't have to be on the floor or in any particular place - the floor just happens to be convenient for most people. Also, the floor tends to be a firm, non-vibrating surface, which is good.

The closer you put a subwoofer to a surface, the more bass you'll hear (it's more complicated than that, but that's the basic effect). You can "tune" a subwoofer by moving it closer to, or away from, floors, walls, and other surfaces. Put it in the corner of a room or in an enclosure or under a desk, and it'll tend to get boomy. Hang it in mid-air and it'll tend to sound weak. It pays to experiment.

Most people have their subs turned up too high and placed in a bad spot, because they want to hear big, boomy bass. They want to know that they got their money's worth. That's fine for special effects, but where music is concerned, if you can hear the sub itself, it's probably turned up too high and/or placed wrong. With music, the effect of a sub should be smooth and subtle. It should fill out the sound but not announce itself, unless that's what you want.

Since the iSub will be reproducing some midrange frequencies as well as bass you should place it so that it will have as much space around it as possible. For maxium boom you should place it in a corner, but that will muddy the sound up a little. Play around with the placement a little and see what works best for your taste. Remember the one factor that influences that sound of any speaker the most is placement. Since everbody's setup is a little different, experimentation is the best way to get the best sound quality.
