Finally gave up with the MM (it didn't scroll down), took it back to PC World for a refund because they didn't have any MX1000 in stock. Went elsewhere and got one, and its fine so far. Let it charge overnight in its dock, then plugged it into the Mac and started up, right/left click and wheel work out of the box (of course), so I've downloaded the Logitech software and got that installed. Only quibble (with the software, not the mouse) is that it only seems to take a keystroke click as a combination of keys, and not a single key. I was thinking of setting up the thumb buttons to Expose and Dashboard with F keys as keystrokes, but it doesn't look like thats possible with the Logitech driver. I'm guessing that USB overdrive does let you map a button to a single key, but I'll keep going with the Logitech driver for now.
One thing that is great about this, it has an off switch!!! I had (still have, gathering dust) a Microsoft wireless mouse that didnt have a switch, or a base station, and ate batteries. This is much better.

I agree the MX1000 was a wonderful mouse. However, I made the reverse mistake and traded it in for a Mighty Mouse because the sidescrolling couldn't be accelerated.
Now, I use a Razer Pro Solutions v1.6. Beautiful, matches my entire workstation, and is more comfortable than any other mouse I've used. Shame it's not weighted like the MX.

Corded mice (mouses) bug me. Had a Mighty Mouse for a long while, but now I'm back to my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 Wireless mouse (black with a leather/pleather hand rest). The driver software is good (written by the same guy who writes USB Overdrive) and it'll go several weeks before needing new batteries.
I'll go back to a Mighty Mouse if/when a bluetooth version comes out.

Mmm .. MX1000. Delicious. I'm a few steps down with the MX3000 desktop (I think the mouse is an MX600 or something). You can head over to your System Preferences / Keyboard & Mouse / Keyboard Shortcuts and change the shortcut keys to activate Exposé and Dashboard to multiple-key keystrokes. Then open up your Logitech software and hotkey to hell and back!

on the MX1000, does the scroll wheel click as you move it up and down? My Microsoft wireless mouse does not click, which is why I bought it. It also runs on 2 AA batteries, and I didnt have to change them for an entire year.

You can set up your Logitech mouse to open Dashboard by programing a button to 'Open Application' and pick Dashboard. Works for me.

Glad to hear you're so happy with your new MX1000!
I've got a MM at work and an MX1000 at home. The MX1000 doesn't feel the same as any other mice that I've had plugged into my PB - is this down to acceleration or something else? I don't want to install any drivers if at all possible (especially having heard such bad stories about Logitech's). Does yours feel as if it works the same way as the MM did?

Thanks for the tips on setting up dashboard.
The wheel is the same as any other wheel really, there isnt an audible click when scrolling, unless you scroll really fast. You can feel the clicks, like the wheel is rolling over a gear.
I like to have my mouse setup to have a fast tracking cursor without moving the mouse much, as far as I can tell, the OS X mouse preferences set the mouse speed, and the Logitech drivers control the wheel and buttons. So if you want to be able to set the side buttons, the Logitech drivers or USB Overdrive are needed.
(PS, I always have a little chuckle to myself when I buy a piece of hardware with a PC driver installation disc, the disc usually stays in the sleeve, and the Mac sorts out what I've just plugged into it! )
