hello0

I have a G3 running at 350 mhz. Oddly I get by on a SCSI yamaha cd-rw 4x. Im thinking of getting a new one and am considering the new Yamaha CRW-F1
it prints on the cd and is a firewire model.

my OS X partition does not seem to recognize he SCSI drive. is the true burn rate on the newer CR-R's limited by the computers processor speed? Id hate to get a new burner and find that it was less then the '40x' now available.

how do processor types (G3 vs G4 vs ***G5***) and MHz affect true burn speed.

thanks for your help rotuts

sorry previous post was posted without content. hit wrong button.

your computer's speed will affect the burn. if your hard drive is too slow or your computer cannot otherwise supply data fast enough, it will slow the burn or, if your burner does not have burn-proof technology, you will get errors during the process and come out with a 'coaster.'

I think you'll be able to burn faster than 4x, but I can't be sure if you'll be okay at 40x.

check <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/firewire.html#CDRW" target="_blank">this page</a>

it's on xlr8yourmac.com, an excellent resource
use the 'Mac Drive Compatability Searchable Database' to read owners comments of particular drives paired with all kinds of machines, new and old..

surely there's someone with a 40X burner hooked up to a G3.. are they getting full burn speeds? check tha database
