Hello

If you were about to buy a 17" flat panel display, which one would you choose ? And why ?

Apple Studio (17) ?
Formac gallery 1740 ?

The Apple seems to be more robust. But the formac seems to be better : contrast ratio (400:1 vs 350:1), brightness (220 cd/m2 vs 200) and the pixel response time is also better on the Formac. But does it really make a difference ? thanks for your help

Ive heard wonderful things about the formac screen.

I would buy the one I could get the best deal on, as both are awesome.

Take a look at the Samsung LCDs. The.264 dot-pitch gives a nice sharp picture, and they're relatively cheap. The SyncMaster 770 TFT can be had for between $500 and $600 if you look around, and the newer 170 T for a few $$ more.

I had the 770TFT and had zero problems with it. My dad loved it so much I gave it to him and replaced it with the Apple 22" Cinema Display. Now that is one serious piece of kit!

I have an Apple 17" studio LCD...

It is an amazing screen, bright clear and sharp...no complaints here

Peace,

Marc

P.S. I haven't seen a formac, but I too have heard great things...would seem to be well worth a look.

Cheers It adds abit of colour and a small measure of revolutionary spirit around the place if nothing else!

I am using a Dell FP 2000 (20" 1600x1200) and have been very happy with it. I bought it one month ago from Dell for $1200, which is a pretty good price for such a large monitor. This might still be more than you want to spend so if you are choosing between the Formac and the Apple based on reviews I have seen on cnet and techtv the Apple gets a slight edge for both picture quality and design but the Formac is a slightly better value. I'd go with the Apple display.

Sorry but I got the name a bit backwards. Nana2 has it correct--the Dell 2000FP. nana2--before you buy your second one you might want to check techbargains.com for coupons to the Dell store and notification of those pretty amazing 20% off sales, which by the way seem to occur every other week....
