I purchased an iVoice to allow me to have voice in for my iBook and
to be able to use the iVoice input jack to record directly from the
stereo headphone output of my piano keyboard. But, big problem! When
you plug an outside source into the iVoice's input jack it doesn't
cut out the iVoice's built in microphone. This means that you end up
getting extranious noise from the builtin microphone that makes the
recording from the keyboard unusable instead of being the clean sound
it should be.
I contacted Macally about this when I first got the bad iVoice and
they had me do things like setting the gain to zero, none of which
helped. Finally after going back and forth with them for several
weeks (they are very, very slow about responding to technical
support, don't return email much of the time, don't return phone
calls despite promises, etc) they finally admitted that the iVoice
had a flawed design that didn't allow the internal microphone to be
cut out of the circuit when an external input source was plugged in.
BUT, they said they were working on a solution, more weeks passed,
months passed, it is now three months later. Today I finally got
someone at Macally to speak with me after repeated phone calls. The
technician acknowledged the problem, said yes it was a bad design and
it made the product useless for the sound input jack and said that
they had no plans to fix it.
It is now months after I purchased it. The place where I bought it
won't take it back because so much time has passed (quite reasonable)
and Macally, who is responsible for this mess and caused the delays
that made it unreturnable tells me that they do not issue refunds and
to take it back to the store.
So, the end result is the product is faulty, they acknowledge it is
faulty, say they have no plans to fix it and won't own up to their
responsibility by refunding the customers money. Buyer beware, and
this is one buyer who won't be buying from Macally again.
