quite simply, the unit does not play even though all indications
are that it is doing otherwise -- the seconds on the readout tick
by, all controls work (menus etc.) but i get no sound --

if i turn the volume up to 20 i get a slight crackle but that is it,
headphones work, battery good...is this happening to anybody else?

getting sick of this thing...i am on my second unit and going for a third one is not something i want to do

...if anybody is interested it works really well with iTunes - plug it in a your good to go! (at least this part works -- thanks to apple or course

Are you sure you're phones aren't bad? I have a replacement pair being shipped to me as we speak.

Yeah, I'd check the headphones. Try another pair (any headphones will do). Make sure they're plugged in all the way. Check for debris in the headphone jack of the Rio. Good luck!

double checked the headphones...loaded an mp3 file
a wma file, still nothing except that faint crackle
