here's an interesting question for ya all...
I've long heard that there's native support for 4.1 audio in OS X, can anyone confirm that? or point me to links with more detailed info? TIA
Next, i'm wondering if there exist any good 4.1 audio decoder chip...a friend suggested TI, which I'll look into...
The thing is, since there's complete lack of support for 4.1 audio for the Mac since OS X, and sound-blaster wasn't all that great for OS 9, I'm wondering if it's feasible to build a USB 4.1 audio decoder. I haven't worked out the math regarding fast enough sample rate over USB, but for now, let's assume there is. With that assumption, it's just a matter of putting pieces together if I wanted to do 4.1 decoding via USB, no? If USB1.1 doesn't provide enough bandwidth, maybe I'll use USB2.0, since that's bound to come to the Mac soon enough anyway. It's just weird nobody has made such a thing already, maybe not a very big market? or lack of chips? who knows...
anyone with any useful info would be greatly appreciated ^_^;
