Ok, I went to get a 17-inch Apple LCD from the local Fry's and the sales guy there told us that they didn't have any, and that Apple has discontinued them

Anyone else know anything?

Did you go to a Fry's in So.Cal? If this is true then it leads me to really believe that come MWNY the tower will have a new look. (new display design to match a new tower design?)

If they do com eout with a new design, will it be possible to get one of the old designs while supplies last? If I don't enjoy the new design

How about, is it possible to buy now, and return it after Macworld if they improve the displays any?

Or at the very least, you might have eBayers who will be selling their old displays for the new models.

I can't think of any place that would let you exchange a monitor a few weeks later because a new model came out. I wouldn't plan on that working.

I think you'd be best off just waiting a couple weeks (unless you need the display right now). If you like the new design you'll be happy you waited, if you don't like the new design I think your chances would be pretty high that you could still catch someone still selling the old models.

Since they upped the resolution of the new 23" Cinema Display I wouldn't be surprized to see the entire line-up get improved resolution as well. And with the Geforce4Ti graphics card finally showing up the improved monitor specs seem even more likely.

So if the new 23" Cinema Display remains the top option, will the next model be an 18" LCD? What about the 15"? Could they sharpen the resolution of the 15" LCD? Or perhaps the 15" will give way to a 16" model as the small monitor. Enquiring minds want to know.

Fry's will take it back as long as you; have your receipt, don't damage the monitor, and return it w/i a certain time frame which is 14 days I think. I bought an ibook from Fry's and ended up returning it the next week because I was dissatisfied with its performance. The only extra hurdle they made me go through was to take the computer to the repair desk where a tech gave the ibook a quick once over and prepared it for a system restore. If you're just returning a display they prob won't make you go through this extra step. fry's is great because of its very liberal return policy which even covers big ticket itmes like computers and lcd displays. So if you want the new 17" flat panel then just return the old one wi 14 days.

I would be very happy if the 22" would get a price reduction.
I`ve seen one once at a tradeshow and my knees went weak

Apple has officially discontinued their supply of 15" LCDs to retailers. From experience, the 17" Will become the low end at $799, then we will have a 19" LCD (16:9) for $1199, and the 22" for $2299, and the 23" for $3,500. Of course, thats just my opinion. I could be wrong.
Am I still here?
