No offense, but please don't use windex or a paper towel , you will be sorry. The best thing is to get an optical cloth from your eye doctor or camera store and use some lens cleaning solution (diluted to half or less) that does not contain alcohol. Trust me on this one. Don't use Kleer Screen either, I called about it and they told me specifically NOT to use their product on this display. Paper towel can, and probably will, scratch the surface coating off eventually and the harshness of the windex will speed up the destruction process.

I think this is over-analysis...How often are you guys cleaning these things? Does Windex and a paper towel scratch your car window or the mirror in your bathroom? No...The 17inch display is just a big hunk of glass. I think everyone is reading a little too much into this..Windex works great on my Powerbook, my 17inch CRT and my visor deluxe..

It isn't the glass that's the problem -- it's the special anti-glare coating they put on the glass of the 17" CRT. Lots of these polymers are quite susceptible to solvent action.

I have a no-cost, safe solution the screen cleaning problem. I use a soft, clean terry-cloth(cotton) bathroom towel and straight water to clean my crt. It seems to work quite well for me, keep in mind that water is known to chemists as the universal solvent. Try it and see what you think before you go out and spend any money.

I use Polarid PolaClean. It's designed to clean optically coated glass, like the CRT in the Studio Display. It's worked well for me. I think the ammonia in Windex may damage the coating. PolaClean is alcohol-based.

There's iKlear. It was designed specifically for Mac screens with the anti-glare coating.

$20 gets you a spray bottle of their cleaner, several optical towels and half a dozen portable wet wipes.

Cottennelle moist wipes with aloe. It is strong yet soft. The aloe helps heal and prevent chafing and rashing.....

If you keep your hands off the screen, you shouldn't have to clean it much at all. I have a can of compressed air for cleaning keyboards, etc, and give the screen a little shot just to blow the dust off.

If I do have to clean the screen, it's just with a few squares of damp TP, and just a quick wipe. If you need more cleaning power than that, you are visiting the wrong kinds of websites!!
