I am in the market for an external firewire hard drive between 60 and 100 gig. I want to use it on my home G4 tower as additional storage and also backup my TiBookk to it. I am running mostly OS X.
I have been reading about some Maxtor problems lately. Anyone have any thought and/or recomendations? How about good comparitive reviews on the web?
Any help appreciated. Thanks!

For a good quality retail model go with LaCie. Good design, reliable drives, and their prices just came down for the second time in six months =)
What's your budget on a new drive?

I'd go with Ikebana Drives. They have DVD burners, CD-RW, and Storage. Their product is extremely good quality. If you're price concious, I'd check them out. They are somewhat new to the market and as a result, the price is significantly lower.
Go to http://www.ikebanadrive.com

The first generation Maxtor drives had many problems. There were many cases of the red busy light staying on forever and the drive becomming unresponsive. These issues were dealt with in the next relese of FireWire drives, and now Maxtor has a new line of extenal drives. Although this could also mean new problems...

Honestly price is not my first concern when it comes to a hard drive. It is just too painful to lose data to save a few bucks.

I've been pretty happy with OWC --I have a Mercury 60G. You'll also get a lot of recommendations to purchase the case and add your own drive. OWC has good cases, too, but I found that you really don't save a lot of money by doing that. It depends what's more convenient, and if you already have an IDE drive that you can use.
