Does anybody have experience with the Yamaha FireWire 16x/10x/40x (CRW2100) drive? I'm contemplating purchasing one.

I'm also considering this drive - having read through most of the old posts here, I suspect you will not hear anything bad about it (other than the fact that it costs some 80 bucks more than some of the alternatives).
I'll order mine tomorrow.

I just bought the drive and it's superb! Nice sturdy case and it burns extremely quickly -- about 620MB of burn in under 5 minutes. The verification afterwards was super-fast as well, due to the 40X speed. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it!

Will it work within itunes 1.1? I have a PBG4, and I really would like to have a faster burner. Currently have a 8x write on my desktop, and I would like to buy a faster firewire one that i can use with itunes Discburn.

Get it, that machine is awesome, and Yamaha is the best brand in the business.
Yes, the CRW2100 mechanism (the one you're talking about) is supported by iTunes - www.apple.com/itunes/ - click the "supported CDRWs" link on the right hand side (can't remember the URL).

RE: Yamaha CDR 2100FXZ - Firewire -
My experiences & thoughts: I'm up here looking for info & a solution, saw your post and thought I would respond. I've had this burner for about 3 months, and after working thru some odd extenstion issues it had run fine until this week when it just stopped working - while Toast Titainium will recognize it - I'm getting an "insert burnable cd" message; iTunes no longer finds it and neither does my System Profiler. I think it's a burner issue and the serious lack of support on the part of Yamaha via email makes this not as great as I had hoped. Actually I"m thinking about packing it up and sending it back for a refund and getting something else.

Very strange. I have one of the CDR 2100 drives, except it has the extension IX (2100IX). It's also a FireWire drive. I wonder what the difference is. Have been nothing but happy with it, though.

Just had to chime in, i also have this drive and after 6 months it stopped working, i emailed yamaha but didnt get a response for a week so i called them, they finally gave me a rma #; oh by the way its been 1 month and i've yet to see my burner.

so in short yes yamaha makes pretty good stuff but the customer support sucks big time. just my $.02

i bought a dual gig so im in no rush to get it back.
