A new brand in external FireWire and USB products has emerged. The brand is Ikebana. The company received rave reviews at PCExpo in NY and is mentioned side by side with Sony, Pioneer, and QPS. They will also be at the upcoming MACExpo!!

This company is trying to compete head on with the big dogs by offering its drives for a lot less. It's newest product is the DVD+RW/+R. It comes with all the utilities and media required to burn +RW and +R.

Their drive is made by the same technology Sony and QPS use and costs a fraction of the price. In a couple of weeks Ikebana will be unveiling their external DVD-R drive.

You can find their products in retail store all over the US. Mostly in MAC stores. They also have a lot of product in Fry's Electronics.

Anyways, I wonder who makes the internals of that unit. Certainly not Ikebana. I believe they're all based on the Ricoh anyway.

Just got a Shecom Ikebana FireWire CD burner from Outpost.com, and it's terrific. Even glows in the dark.

The innards are Teac, although some are Sony. Works with OS 9 and Toast, and 10.2.3 in Toast, iTunes, and the desktop CD burner. Now if they'll send me my rebate, I'll be even happier.

If the DVD burners are as good as the CD burners, get one.
