I recently installed a new router over my home network that allows certain ports from the shared IP address to forward to a masked IP address on the LAN. The printer that we use is a Laserwriter 12/640PS that can be printed to via IP. As we have an always on DSL internet connection, it would save me much money to be able to print documents from college at our home laserprinter as opposed to faxing them accross the country. Does anyone know of a way to print to a Laserwriter 12/640PS via IP from a Mac? and if so, what port(s) is(are) used?

thanks.

You're trying to print to your home printer from elsewhere through a broadband link? If you have a firewall up, this may be difficult. If you don't have a firewall up, anyone might be able to print to it.
Is this a good place for an argument?

I understand that technically speaking, anyone could print to it. Theoretically, anyone could print to any printer on an internet connected network. For better or for worse, I am not all that worried about the security of my network. The ip for the printer is in a specifically designated DMZ behind our firewall and the worst possible scenario would be that someone would print out fifty pages of porn. I also believe in the hacker ethic that encourages people to look but not change. Perhaps I am being overly lax about security, but I guess I cannot see why anyone would care to hack into our network.
