Numerous posts, mine included, laud the compatibility of Sony's MiniDisk player with our Macs. Though Sony officially doesn't support the Mac platform my Power Mac G3 recognized the MZ-R70 MD Walkman right out of the box.

I just received a Sony Memory Stick Walkman for Christmas and was wondering if anyone has gotten one to work with a Mac. Sony provides software called OpenMG Jukebox. Even this only supports Win98 and Win98 2nd Ed. And not the upgrade versions! Unless some one has a better idea it looks like I just found a use for the Vaio notebook they foisted upon me at work. I have a copy of VPC3.0/Win95 but I really don't want to use it. Windows sucks, native or emulated. I haven't even installed VPC since I nuked it off my PowerBook.

I'm going to archive my MP3's to CD-R and put 'em on the Sony laptop, then into the Memory Stick Walkman. Unless someone knows another way.

Try the USB Memory Stick adaptor... You can also use the PC-Card Memory Stick adaptor or the Floppy Memory Stick adaptor... They are all available for about 60 or 70 bucks and the drivers work great with Macs.

You just drag and drop files onto your Memory Sticks... I have had problems going back and forth between Mac and Win 2K laptop with corrupted index files on my Memory Sticks... So watch out.

Sony just released a new form factor of the USB version in japan which should hit the US soon (http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Style-b/Store/Powerup/index.html)

I agree that Sony did a crappy job of supporting the Open MG software for Win2k, etc... I don't think the Memory Stick players or the Music Clips actually let you play MP3's though, so the whole post may be irrelevant. I think they make you convert it to their SDMI compliant version of ATRAC (which is their Minidisc CODEC (compression decompression) algorythm.)

Good luck,

I also believe that you can't use existing MP3 files - you have to encode them from the OpenMG Jukebox app. If this isn't so I'll look at the system again - that limitation was why I didn't get it.

Also, you have to use the more expensive memory sticks (the MG model) which include copyright protection...
