For my company I bought 3 b&w G3s and 3 b&w 17" Studios to go with them. Less than 2 years later, 2 of the three started that whole "pop-dim-zoom" disease where you would hear a pop, the screen dims and then zooms out wide and slowly shrinks back to normal. I began looking at forums on the web such as this one and even Apple's own Tech Exchange page to find a whole slew of similar complaints of the same symptoms.

After two calls to Apple Customer relations and one to Corporate the response I got was "that's unfortunate". If it was closer to the date of the end of the warranty maybe they could do something, or if I had called during the warranty period it would be on record and maybe they could do something. Well, if I had called during the warranty period, wouldn't I want them to fix it instead of just logging my problem? Do I call them to chit-chat? Let this be a lesson: just before your warranty expires, call Apple and say you have a problem with everything. That way when your product dies a few months or so out of warranty, you'll be on record for something.

So, has anyone who posted this similar problem have any luck resolving the problem?

Oh, my last question to the non-helpful Apple Corporate rep, which got a chuckle from my co-workers within earshot, was, "Do these Studio Displays make good fish tanks?"

He didn't laugh.
